this and that

no matter how old we are, and no matter what our life's been like, for the most part our life can be summed up in a matter of a few minutes. the minutes comprise of those miliseconds in which our lifes most important events take place and decisions are taken, no matter how big or small, irrelevant or life changing.
we can spend years dealing with the effects of those decisions or events but the truth is that it was just a few seconds that brought about that change.
we can mull over things, spend days pondering over our decisions but there is just one decisive moment, that changes it all.
same goes with life events, be it the death or birth of a loved one or a relationship, no matter how long the process is dragged on for, the change comes in one decisive swing that can blow you away (for better or for worse). it is that one second when the earthquake cames and changes everything suddenly, it is that one most decisive second when you know your relationship is over no matter how hard you work before or after that second to make things work, all effort is in vain. it is that one second when life leaves the body of your loved one and you spend years after that with an aching pain in your heart, mourning the loss.

this makes me wonder, is pain and happiness really that important ? i mean if we are really happy today, any second our world can fall apart and vice versa, if we are really sad today, any second things can change.

have you ever wondered why is it easier to feel pain than happiness ? it is easier for us to stop feeling happy, than to stop experiencing pain and hurt. i've heard that you're only as happy as you want to be, but can i ask this worthy individual, how do we stop experiencing the pain and hurt that comes our way uninvited ? we can really want to be happy but if circumstances in life are bleak, how do we overlook them ?

we end up spending most of our time rationalising our life situations. but rationalisations are only painkillers, you get only temporary relief, and you are yet to face the music. we avoid facing the enormity of bad situations because they can be overwhelming, and thats why we spend more time recovering from pain and sadness, whereas happiness is easier to experience in its entirety and therefore its ephemeral.
we don't realize when the good things in life are over, but the pain we experience is never forgotten and therefore hardly ever forgiven. such is life and its ways !
